Star Gazing
The sun sets at approximately 6 or 6:30 pm but that is no reason to remain inside. Enjoy a rum punch or cold “Stag” beer on the veranda with a perfect view of the sizzling sun dipping into the Caribbean Sea.
Nothing can be more satisfying than picking up a few pounds of freshly caught fish right off the fishing boats at nearby Mt. Irvine Bay in the late afternoon. The fishermen will chop them up as steaks or fillet them right by the road. You'll find kingfish, tuna, "dolphin" (mahi mahi), red snapper, flying fish, grouper or barracuda and maybe some lobster. A coal pot barbecue or Hibachi is available for use at the Villa to enjoy your catch of the day!
At Top O’ Tobago we are very fortunate to be far away from any light pollution so the stars come out with amazing constellations to gaze at. You will find they are not in their normal place or angle if you come from the northern hemisphere so it is fun to see them spread above over the Milky Way.
Evening is also a great time to go for a walk listening to the crickets and see the fireflies or “lightening bugs” as they are known here. You can also see the rare pygmy owls that like to stand on the driveway and are mesmerized by car lights.
The walks in moonlight are especially memorable at full moon. You won’t see many stars at that time but the moon’s glow on the tropical forest and palm trees is beautiful. So take some time to explore the quiet of the evenings while you are here.
