The Main House villa sits at the peak of the hilltop and offers magnificent views of the Caribbean Sea, Buccoo Reef and Pigeon Point in the distance, and the verdant green hillsides of virgin tropical forest.
The Main House is a very spacious bungalow with high ceilings and large double doors on all sides. It gives a tremendous sense of openness and spaciousness. The double doors open out to the red tile patios, with shaded trellis and the magnificent kidney-shaped crystal clear pool with diving board. The windows are large and offer security through attractive decorated wrought iron grills. The mosaic tables around the pool and patios add a special elegance to the property.
The Main House is well appointed with all the amenities our guests could desire. There is a large kitchen with different work areas, making it perfect when preparing large meals. Two or three cooks and even a bartender could work comfortably together. The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, stove, fridge, microwave, pantry, commercial juicer, mixer, ovenware, pots and pans, knives, plates, glasses and cutlery.
The dining room table seats up to 10 people and can also be used as a meeting table for conferences or a serving table for weddings and other functions. On a clear night some guests like to bring the large table outside under the stars to dine on the terrace by the pool with local dishes prepared by a local chef and perhaps even served on a banana leaf.
The living room is part of the open architecture of the Main House and offers relaxing sofas and chairs to enjoy the entertainment facilities. Cable T.V., DVD, VCR and a CD player are provided and include a growing selection of videos and DVD movies. Perfect after a day at the beach, or hiking in the rain forest, or to just chill out. There are reference books on Trinidad and Tobago, novels, board games and even children’s videos available for all guests staying at Top O’ Tobago.
There are two separate bedrooms in the Main House, each with their own full bathroom, large shower areas, hot and cold water throughout, and locally crafted built-in closets. The louvered windows help control the breeze and bright early morning sunshine.
The French doors in the luxurious new master bedroom open to views of unspoiled green hills, which can also be enjoyed from the queen-size bed. Another set of French doors open to a private patio where guests can enjoy their early morning coffee or tea, or watch the moon rise over the hills in the evenings. Yet another French door opens to a spectacular open-air outside shower with custom made tiles depicting a spectacular underwater reef scene of manta rays, tropical fish and swaying fan coral. The twin shower heads are like warm spring droplets gently massaging the skin. Perhaps the most beautiful feature of the master bedroom is the breathtaking vanity sink created by a local artist in Trinidad, Bunty O’Connor. It has a tropical forest motif with hidden creatures and flowers suddenly emerging from the forest – breathtaking!
Just a few steps from the master bedroom is another patio, perfect for morning yoga or to see the fish pond below. Right beside this there is a lovely gazebo patio with sea views and a flower garden that attracts hummingbirds for their nectar. A mosaic table sits here which depicts the folklore tale of “Mama de L'Eau”.
The recently enlarged second bedroom has a large bathroom, shower, closets and a sitting area. There are two single beds. These can be made into bunk beds for children if necessary. Overhead fans give good air circulation and just outside the room are loungers and hammocks – perfect for that afternoon siesta.
The Main House also has a third room, which is called the “study”. This has a full bathroom and shower. The study has a large 9 foot mahogany table set up as an office for Main House guests. The Internet is easily accessible through a wireless connection. The large table could be used as a boardroom table or meeting table. Sitting here to work is inspiring with two French doors leading out to a private patio with another large mosaic table and chairs under lime and mango trees. There is a sofa in this room which could be converted to a single bed for an extra person. Doors close off the master bedroom for privacy. However we must stress that this room was designed as a study, not a bedroom.
