Hiking
Top O’ Tobago is in a perfect location for those who love to hike and explore some of the old tracks left from colonial days. The hills around Top O’ Tobago are mostly virgin land and there are many beautiful views as well as wild flowers, birdlife and cool streams to refresh you. The best time to take a walk or go jogging is in the early morning or the late afternoon, before the sun gets hot. This is also the time you see the most birds and the sun rising or setting is amazing. There are many trails nearby and once you arrive at the Villa the manager will be happy to supply you with directions and maps. There is also a spectacular waterfall in a beautiful natural setting not too far away that you must experience.
A nature trail on the property has been developed with many benches placed in perfect spots for contemplation and meditation. Guests are invited to pick the ripe fruit or maybe relax on the bamboo bed and hear the sound of bamboo clacking in the wind. Walk along a seven-circuit labyrinth in meditation, play on the swing or sit by the shaded trickling spring-fed creek and listen to birdsong.
Tobago is fortunate to have no poisonous snakes or other dangerous animals. Don’t be alarmed by local men walking along the road with large cutlasses or machetes. They are probably just returning home from working in their garden or clearing some bush. The proper etiquette coming from you as a visitor is to first smile and wish them a pleasant morning or evening. You’ll be amazed at the bright smile and warm reply and probably a short conversation about the weather or how you are enjoying your stay on their island. If you feel lost don’t hesitate to ask – people will go out of their way to help – that is if you can understand the heavy country dialect.
