Nature Trails

The countryside around Top O' Tobago is perfect for hikes along the nearby Mot Mot Trail or along the old colonial tracks near the Arnos Vale Waterwheel.

Guests particularly love a secluded waterfall nearby. It is found by a short drive and a fascinating walk through the jungle. Someone from the Villa is usually available to be your guide.

There is also a nature trail on the property with many benches placed in perfect spots for contemplation and meditation. Guests are invited to pick the ripe fruit or maybe relax on the bamboo bed and hear the sound of bamboo clacking in the wind. Walk along a seven-circuit labyrinth in meditation, play on the swing or sit by the shaded trickling spring-fed creek and listen to birdsong.

Bird Watching

Top O' Tobago attracts all five species of hummingbirds found on the island due to the numerous feeders placed around the property. Birders from around the world are astounded by the rare and beautiful birds you are likely to see and hear during your stay, often right from the patio of your cabana.

The bird list includes:
Blue Grey Tanager, Bananaquit, Red Crowned Woodpecker, Rufous Vented Chachacalaca, Blue Crowned Mot-Mot (King of the Woods), Tropical Mockingbird, Eared Dove, Cattle Egret, Green Heron, Green Rumped Hummingbird, Ruby Topaz Hummingbird, Black-throated Mango, Tobago Emerald, Glossy Cowbird, White-shouldered Tanagers, Tobago White-barred Bush Strikes, Tobago House Wren, Allied Ant Wren, Glossy Grassquit, Yellowtail Cornbird, Rufous-tailed Jacamar owls and many others.

Snorkeling and Scuba Diving

Arnos Vale Bay, just a short walk downhill through the gardens and along a path, offers one of the best and most accessible snorkelling spots on the island.
The Bay was once used for shipment of processed sugar cane from the Waterwheel on the plantations in the area. It is a good place for novice snorkellers. There is an amazing variety of colourful reef fish and underwater coral formations to explore. You may even be lucky to see a turtle, moray eel or manta ray in the area.

Stargazing, Fireflies, Barbecue and an Evening Swim

Nothing can be more satisfying than picking up a few pounds of freshly caught fish right off the fishing boats at nearby Mt. Irvine Bay. The fishermen will chop them up as steaks or fillet them right by the road. You'll find kingfish, tuna, "dolphin" (mahi mahi), red snapper, flying fish, grouper or barracuda.

Take your catch back to the Villa and prepare a barbecue feast with your friends and family. Spend the evening marvelling at fireflies or stargazing at constellations that might seem unfamiliar to you if you are only accustomed to Northern skies. Jump in the pool and enjoy!
